Our volunteers work throughout the year to make ditty bags and Christmas stockings, as well as the many handmade items that go in them: caps, angels, handwritten letters, etc. Below are pictures and stories of some of the volunteers who give of their time (and buy their own supplies, too!).
Spruce Creek, Summerfield, FL Minutes of Recent Events–November 2012
Novemebr 16 & 17, the Spruce Creek volunteer group held a Used Treasure Sale at the Old Administration Building. Sales of treasures donated by residents and cookies will be used for postage needed to send stockings to troops. Yay!
The group is currently gathering the following items: toothbrushes, Q-tips, knitted or crocheted hats, dark colored yarn (4 ply) for hat making, and standard-sized envelopes.

When State College resident Betty Knouse pledged to sew 500 Christmas stockings for military personnel this summer, that got Claire Amick thinking.
Both belong to the local Centre Pieces Quilt Guild. Amick, of Boalsburg, was so impressed by Knouse’s enthusiasm she challenged guild members to match her.
The result: nearly 1400 Christmas stockings were completed and mailed to Operation Shoebox in November 2012.
